José Quevedo “Bolita” was still a child when his fellow countryman Paco de Lucía led a revolution in flamenco – the traditional music from Andaluzia that blends Moorish, gypsy and jewish influences – creating a style that became known as flamenco jazz. Under this influence, Quevedo started playing the guitar at 14 and, five years later in Madrid, joined some of Spain’s most important flamenco dancers and singers, like como Joaquin Grilo, Eva Yerbabuena and Esperanza Fernandez. His debut work, Fluye, was named as best flamenco album by newspaper El País, the first of many awards he holds also as a producer, for which he has received three nominations for the Latin Grammy Awards for his works with singers Miguel Poveda and Argentina. In this concert, named Caótico, Quevedo celebrates his 30-year career joined by a big band that explores new possibilities and soundscapes for the rhythm that’s his country’s hallmark.
