The 55-year long career of mineiro guitarist Toninho Horta is marked by historical moments in MPB with Clube da Esquina, formed with fellows Milton Nascimento, Beto Guedes, Lô Borges and Robertinho Silva, a movement that, according to him, was responsible for “promoting a revolution in music, melody, harmony and rhythm.” Since then, he has recorded over 30 albums, playing with Sergio Mendes, Gil Evans, Flora Purim, Naná Vasconcelos, Paquito D´ Rivera, Airto Moreira, Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, George Benson, Pat Metheny, Tom Jobim, Elis Regina, Hermeto Pascoal. With Orquestra Fantasma, Horta recorded the double album Belo Horizonte (2020), consisting of the discs “Belo”, with famous songs like Durango Kid, and “Horizonte”, with original instrumental tracks. Belo Horizonte, which will serve as the base for the concert’s setlist, earned the Latin Grammy Award for Best MPB Album. “The Grammy usually awards famous singers,” says Horta. “That’s why I dedicate this work to all Brazilian instrumental music.”
