In the 50’s, great jazz figures like Thelonious Monk, Zoot Sims, Jimmy Giuffre and Hall Overton jam night after night in a run down New York loft, unaware that all is being captured in sound and pictures by acclaimed LIFE Magazine photographer W. Eugene Smith, who lives in the loft space next door. With the help of interviews and music, the movie recreates the vibrant culture of the New York jazz era in the mid 20th century, bringing back to life characters and episodes documented in Smith’s photographs.
