In 1939 New York, Alfred Lion and Francis Wolff, two young jewish émigrés living in the United States after escaping nazism, founded Blue Note Records, the record label responsible for the launch of such genius artists as Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, John Coltrane, Thelonious Monk, among others. Understanding the similarities between the antisemitism they knew and the racism faced by their musicians, Blue Note Records founders elevated those artists to a new level, as shown in It Must Schwing!, that combines animation, interviews with jazz masters and a soundtrack filled with jazz classics.
